LVMH wins $200,000 after winning the lawsuit and winning Ebay

LVMH Group once again won the online auction giant Ebay, this time involving the flagship brand Louis Vuitton.

The Supreme Court of Paris ruled that because Ebay did not protect consumers from buying counterfeit goods, it would have a fine of 200,000 euros, and Ebay would have to pay legal costs of 30,000 euros.

The court also ordered Ebay to stop using LVMH-related keyword searches, or a fine of 1,000 euros per search result.

Nathalie Moullé-Berteaux, LVMH’s Director of Global Intellectual Property, said: “LVMH welcomes the results of such trials. Our aim is to protect the company’s trademarks from illegal use and mislead consumers in their purchasing decisions.”

Ebay expressed great disappointment at the Paris court's verdict, but fortunately LVMH's compensation amount was 12 million euros, and the final ruling was 200,000 euros.

Ebay pointed out that similar lawsuits had also taken place in Belgian courts before, but Ebay was successful in a court match against Ralph Lauren. Therefore, Ebay also hopes that the European Court of Justice will consider this issue in more depth. Otherwise, on the issue of trademark protection, search sites will continue with the brand company's endless debate.
