With the recent release of the Swingset Skirt in a wider range of sizes, I thought it would be wonderful to share some inspiring examples of this delightful pattern that many of you have crafted over the years. These adorable skirts were sourced from Pinterest, where you'll find even more creative ideas. Our Flickr group also has plenty of fantastic photos shared by fellow sewists—there’s such a wealth of talent showcased there. I am always amazed at how inventive everyone gets with this pattern. Whether through embroidery, embellishments, reversible designs, adding trims, or customizing the lining to peek out, each creation feels uniquely personal.

In addition to those inspiring photos, I wanted to share some more fabric and styling ideas to spark your creativity. One concept that caught my eye was creating the skirt from linen or cotton gauze, perhaps even triple gauze. This gives the skirt an ethereal, delicate appearance with a touch of vintage charm. While these fabrics are perfect for warm summer days, they look equally charming paired with tights and a sweater for cooler seasons. The combination is absolutely adorable! Another idea I adore is using tulle as the outer layer. We've seen something similar with our free Tutu skirt pattern, but I think this approach works beautifully with the Swingset Skirt due to its flared silhouette. For an even better result, consider power mesh instead of traditional net tulle—it offers a more substantial weight and graceful drape. Oh, and don't miss the color-blocked version below—it's surprisingly simple to achieve with our color-blocking tutorial.

When it comes to fabric choices, quilting cottons, chambray, lawn, sateen, and even fine-wale corduroy (as Gail did, I'd recommend lining the skirt with something light like lawn to avoid bulk) are all excellent options. I’m planning to sew a Swingset Skirt for S using some cotton lawns from my upcoming collection for Kaufman, which will be available in January. I’ll make sure to show it off to you before then, I promise. What kinds of fabrics are you thinking about using for this pattern?
